Yesterday was my birthday *woo hoo* so today I’ll be sharing with ya’ll a Japanese treat that I like to eat every now and then. A pair of Salmon Skin hand rolls. So good. So what comprises of is nori, small amount of sushi rice, cucumbers, fried salmon skin, and eel sauce. Hold it like an ice cream cone, eat it like a boneless chicken leg. Ohhh yess.. lol. Gotta thank the sushi gods for this one. Anyway this is surely a treat, small snack. If you just wanna taste ingredients without the fullfillment of rice then you’re right where you want to be.
Sushi Video : How to make a Salmon Skin Hand Roll recipe
The Ingredients you’ll need are:
- Two 1/2 sheet of nori
- Sushi Rice, small amount, preference based
- Sesame seeds, light sprinkle
- Cucumbers, small amount, preference based
- Skin of Salmon, preferably Smoked Salmon Skin (more flavor), 4×6 inches
- Two thin pieces of cream cheese, preference based
- Flour, enough to cover skin
- Tempura batter, enough to cover skin
- Pot of Hot Veggie or Corn Oil
- Eel Sauce, light drizzle
Sounds like a lot of ingredients but if you make a lot of sushi, most of these ingredients can be salvaged into other rolls and such.
First place veggie oil or corn oil into a pot under high heat for about 7 to 10 minutes. Make sure its below boiling point. When the oil is ready, coat the salmon skin with flour, then tempura batter, and place it into the hot oil. Let it fry for about 2 minutes.
Now thats done, place the rice onto the nori starting from about 1 inch down from the left corner and make a triangular shape down close to the bottom middle. Looks like an isosceles triangle. Getting technical here lol. JK. Then sprinkle sesame seeds onto the rice. Place some stripes of thin cucumbers onto the rice. Then chop the salmon skin into thin stripes and place them on top of the cucumber. Lastly, add a thin piece of cream cheese on top of the salmon skin. Placing your left hand under the nori where all the ingredients are, slowly turn the nori with one or 2 hands, into a cone shape, then use your right hand to guide it through. Once you get to the end, place a few pieces of sushi rice onto the right bottom corner so when you close it the hand roll with be sealed without breaking apart. Add a light drizzle of eel sauce onto where the ingredients are shown, try not to place eel sauce on the nori where as thats where you would hold it to eat. Extra eel sauce on the side for dipping.
Enjoy! My gift to you… for my birthday lol.
