There are many versions of the Dragon Roll. Usually the top consists of Eel and avocado but the inside varies to the restaurant. Some contain crab, shrimp and cucumbers. This particular Dragon Roll one contains spicy tuna. Of course you can put whatever you want inside just don’t be greedy and over pack it. You’ll be sorry
There is a Green Dragon roll, also known as the Caterpillar roll. It has eel and cucumber inside and a full layer of avocado infused on top of the roll. Any way the Dragon roll is made, it is always based around the eel ingredient. Preferably hot and toasted.
Sushi Video : How to make a Dragon Roll recipe
What you’ll need to make a Dragon Roll:
-3 nigiri size slices of Eel
-1 slice of Avocados (size: 1/16 of a whole Avocado)
-Small palm full of spicy tuna
-Small bowl of tempura flakes
-Tobiko
-Eel Sauce
-Palm full of sushi rice
-1/2 sheet of nori
-toasted sesame seeds
-Small piece of octopus and 2 salmon roe for dragon head garnish (optional)
Making the Dragon Roll:
First, spread the rice on your 1/2 sheet nori. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds onto the rice. Place seaweed side facing up. Place a small palm full of spicy tuna across the middle of the seaweed. Add a small palm full of tempura flakes along the spicy tuna. Roll it up and pat the sides to secure and lock the ingredients in. Evenly spread the 3 pieces of Eel on top of the roll. 2 pieces at the very edge and 1 piece in the middle. Slice the 1/16 of an avocado into 4 pieces. Separate into 2 pieces and place them on the area between the eel to fill the gap. So it should look like this (eel, avo, avo, eel, avo, avo, eel). Place plastic wrap over the roll and use a bamboo mat to mesh it together. Now cut the roll into 8 pieces and mold the roll again with the bamboo mat. Remove the plastic wrap and place the 8 pieces onto a plate in a swivel. Apply a layer of tempura flakes ontop. Then a layer of eel sauce across the roll. Then sprinkle tobiko across the roll. Use a plastic leaf garnish to create the dragon head. Use 1 piece of octopus with 2 suction cups as the eyes. Apply 2 salmon roe into the octopus suction cup as the pupils. When you are done, the Dragon Roll should actually look like a dragon. And of course, ginger and wasabi. Make and experience a different dragon roll each time and create your very own dragon roll at home.
